SEO & SEM

Smart online and digital marketers know it's not enough to blog, to post to Facebook, or to keep your LinkedIn profile updated.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Pay Per Click are the fuel that drive a company's relevance on and rise through the Internet.

SEO and SEM increase a company's level of Web-based traffic by using keywords and phrases, meticulously researched against consumer search habits. Search marketers and business owners believe that the higher the results, the more likely a consumer will be to click on the link.

With SEO, those words and phrases then are infused into written media (blogs, press releases and social media, video tags and descriptions, or other Web-based content).

We start by optimizing Websites for SEO by adding title tags, hyperlinks, databases and possibly a blog. We also include keyword and phrase research to discover what the public is requesting from the search engines. We also perform SEO for select pages; create and submit a sitemap XMLfile for Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask; submit the site to all major search engines and directories, Google Local Business and Yahoo Local Business; initiate a link building effort (which helps generate traffic to the site); and set up Google Analytics for Web traffic reporting.

Those words and phrases - written and embedded across the HTML language, code and copy of the Website or blog site - help raise a site's presence and ranking in the search engines. This is called "natural" or "unpaid" search results. Once posted, search engines "crawl" the new content and "index" it for relevance. The more relevant the content, the higher it will reveal in a consumer's search.

The alternative, SEM, is "paid" search. In this process, a company pays a marketing firm to place ads on search page. Viewers can tell the difference because most search engine results pages (SERPs) include "Sponsored Links" beside those results, which often are referred to as "paid inclusion." This can include SEO, SEM, contextual advertising and paid placement.

Once completed, we return to the site and add those words and phrases into the text to let the search engines know that the site is a relevant place to visit in order to obtain more information. In most instances, SEO is considered organic growth of traffic to a Website and may take three to six months to begin accomplishing pre-established objectives.

Used in concert with each other, as well as social media and traditional marketing practices, these search marketing tactics can take a company or Website to an even higher level of online awareness.
